Oh, you're just the same as I used to know

Who; Arkady + OTA
What; Open intro log fun times!
Where; Residence area and into building Blue, harbor, and market!
When; Starting on the 3rd through the 5th
Warnings; Mentions of blood and nothing else I can think of at the moment.

A. What Can You See-Harbor

There was someone Arkady needed to find. Someone important to her that she hoped beyond anything would be here too. She'd wasted absolutely no time exploring this new place. Teleportation made it easy to get around swiftly but there was an easier way to look and see things. The harbor seemed like a good choice for her experiment. The dock with the dilapidated ships seemed especially promising as a location that she might not be disturbed. Who else would choose to come out to a place that only held broken pieces? They were things she had always been drawn to though. Maybe broken things spoke to broken people in ways that only they understood. Or maybe she just liked the promise of not being noticed.

There was a large bottle of vodka next to her as she dangled her feet off the dock and looked down at the water. A part of her had grown truly sick of water. Back home it felt like there was a never ending supply of water that just kept closing in on them as the days went by. It was their fault of course, so could she really complain? No. The only thing she ever complained about was the fact that she couldn't fix it all by herself.

"I have a world of my own to fix," she said to nobody in particular with a slight edge of anger to her voice. "And other people you took me from that need me." There was frustration in her voice that she didn't usually let on, but she thought it was safe here to speak freely to the open waters. She heaved a sigh, took a drink from the bottle, and then her eyes began to glow a bright white and her body went as still as a statue. She stayed that way for longer than she should have looking for people she needed to find and also for a layout of this place. The more she knew, the easier could get around.

Eventually she hit something wrong though, something that caused her to jerk back to herself and nearly fall off the dock.

"Fuck," she shouted as she gasped for air and her eyes returned to purple. "Oh no. No, no, no. Not here too." She was going to need more vodka for this.

B. Find Your Color

After her exploration she'd returned to the residence building that she'd initially been taken to and shifted through the satchel to find the key. There was still a part of her bothered by what she'd seen, but now there were other people around and that meant an act had to be put on. Nobody else needed to be bothered by what was going on. Especially not if they had just arrived like her. Everyone was going to be confused enough without adding more to it.

"A-09, blue building! I like blue!" If it occurred to her that it was odd to be speaking aloud to herself she didn't let it show in the slightest. Instead the bald young woman just pulled her jacket up over her shoulders, making the word FreakAngels on the back much more visible. Unfortunately her readjustment of her jacket also made the blood stains on it much more prominent. In fact, if one were to get close enough they might notice that she's got what looks like dried blood stains on her neck. The way she tugged the jacket around her made it fairly obvious she was aware of the fact that the stains could be seen and really didn't want anyone else to be.

Dangling from the jacket there were a variety of doll parts that jingled as she walked up to the blue building and just looked it over for a few seconds. She swayed back and forth with her hands clasped behind her back as she looked at the building as if she were studying it for reasons only known to her. After a few solid minutes of just staring with bright white eyes at the building she disappeared for just a second. When she reappeared it was directly in front of the blue building. Where precisely she went during her brief disappearance was anyone's guess (the roof of the building) but she acted like it never happened as she opened the door and stepped inside.

"Hello! Is anyone else here?" she said loudly in a bight and cheerful voice as she walked into the common room. She was definitely curious about who her building-mates would be in this place. Though, there was one person in particular she was very focused on finding.

C. Lets Go Shopping

After another day of exploration Arkady made her way to the open-air market with a considerable amount of enthusiasm. Her jacket rested on her elbows revealing her pale and frail looking shoulder. She had on a see-through skirt made of a patchwork of different colors and she walked barefoot without any sort of care. There was a small smile on her face as she moved around the stalls excitedly looking at just how much there was.

"There's so much! This is wonderful!" Much better than the place she'd been before. It had plenty of things to buy but it hadn't been like this. This was like home except so much better. There was the same familiar feel as the market back home but there was so much to be found. For years there had been a shortage of everything. Fresh food was difficult to find and relied greatly on what the FreakAngels could actually grow themselves. Spices were no longer a luxury. In fact, luxuries in general were a thing of the past.

This however, it was something magical and exciting. Not only that but there people here. Real people. Not fake people like there had been in the other city. Every now and then her eyes would glow bright white and then she'd smile brightly as she touched the minds of actual people. Real people with real thoughts that didn't give her a headache.

Eventually, she stopped in front of a fishmonger and just took in the smells. "There's so much here! I don't even know what to get..."

“Most things don’t like to be eaten, I would say. Though I can understand not eating something out of courtesy to it.” And he honestly could, given the smallest member of his crew was nothing more than a very endearing little hermit crab that he hadn’t been able to bring himself to eat when he happened on it in his childhood. Herman was simply... special. Tiny little thief, liked to take things that weren’t his to hide away in. Did the conversation make him think of his small companion? Yes. Did he feel a little pang of missing him and the others in his group? Also yes.

“I suppose I do,” Out at restaurants, or more often than not outside, he responded with a little shrug. “I’m also lucky enough to be invited to gatherings where food is generally served. Of course, Arkady’s excitement over finding out how to properly cook the fish and the offer to make some for him as well was... very sweet. Caelan was visibly touched by that generosity offered to someone who was a stranger, unable to stop himself from smiling. “That’s very kind of you? I would be quite thankful for the gesture.” He hummed lightly, “Perhaps in return I could provide the fish, I admit I’m quite good at catching them despite not being able to cook them.” A strange thing to admit perhaps, but it was honest.

Because here they were, in a strange world, with limited funds. Caelan wasn’t the sort to take something and offer nothing in return (unless there was thieving involved, that was different), and by the sound of it she could use a few good meals.

“They may not? At least some mightn’t.” Caelan grinned a little at her light tone, though he could think of some fae of the plant variety who definitely wouldn’t appreciate being turned into salads. Still, they would probably get a bit miffed with whomever was trying to make a meal of them before it got to that point.

Ah, fishing was different between humans and selkie-folk. He supposed she might like doing it the people way, though. Many did it for sport or relaxation. Well... The rich folk did, those who were less lucky did it to eat. “You might like it, it’s quite fun sometimes and relaxing others.”

Well now wasn’t that a good question Arkady? He rolls with it smoothly though, “I’ve got friends who are better cooks, and everyone in the group has their talents, so we all do our part to make sure everyone eats.” It’s not even a lie, the others in the crew sometimes cook what he catches if they’re gathering together, so even if it’s not all the time... It’s enough to be a passable answer he thinks.

Oh she moved on quickly, excellent! “You certainly could, if they aren’t too busy they’ll probably be happy to give you some advice. If not, I’m sure there are others in this place that know better than I do about how to cook.” Surely the ‘Aspects’ as they were called had thought to drag a few people who knew their way around the kitchen here. Couldn’t open businesses like a restaurant without them, and they seemed keen to rebuild the city to a more normal state.

Caelan noted a few interesting points to her words, the fact that she seemed to intend to talk to things that most humans wouldn’t expect an answer from, and then the way that she had phrased ‘taking what they knew’ rather than asking for advice. The first could be written off as youthful imagination, at least to the human folk. The second was... decidedly odd.

“Pardon, miss, did I hear you correctly?” He asked, head tilting slightly with interest. “Did you say you could ‘take what they knew?’ Rather than ask?

Alright, Caelan supposed that he’d heard correctly then. That just left him with a few more questions, it was a rare sounding talent after all...

Her expression and her words do seem rather sincere, and well-meaning though. “That so? Well, I can understand that line of thought. It’s definitely kind of you to not want to bother someone for something you could work out yourself, even if I’m not sure how what you said would work.”

And honestly... That seemed like an ability best left secret, ‘normal people’ tended to panic over the silliest things as it was without worrying about someone dipping into their heads for information. If they weren’t panicking over it? They tended to seek to use such a thing instead. Of course, Caelan is a bit of a stickler for keeping things secret. Especially here and now. “Pardon a stranger for giving more unsolicited advice, but you may not want to talk about such an ability to just anyone. Some things are best kept up here.” He tapped his own head, “For safe keeping.”

There was... a lot in that she said that he didn’t like to hear. Having one's movements restricted, no matter how well-meaning, seemed a poor idea. Then again, he was a being that thrived on having the freedom to roam and be as he was either in the seas or on land. Seemed better to learn, to practice keeping one's abilities and true self under wraps while experiencing the world around you.

Then again, he’d gotten himself into a lot of trouble over the years by living like that. So he supposed that he might not have been the best example...

“So you at least have a sort of protection to prevent the wrong person from finding out?” He hummed a little, the confidence behind her words and the rather earnest way she explained everything before now definitely backed that up... “That’s good, people can unfortunately be quite unpleasant about things like that.”

At least in his experience they tended to be. “It’s nice to meet you though, Arkady. I’m Caelan, by the way.”

“Some people might be a little put off by that knowledge, yeah.” Like him, ever so slightly, he doesn’t show it on his face though. Caelan is good at masking his emotions, so instead of looking worried over the idea that someone here could read his thoughts he smiled instead. “I think you’re safe though, no one seems to be paying much attention to us. Too much going on in their own lives, I’d bet.” He added when he noticed her looking around at the crowd.

Fear and a name like ‘Freakangels?’ How utterly rude. Wherever Arkady was from, the sounded rather terrible. He did wonder if there were any worlds out there that weren’t unpleasant in some way, but he doubted it. Caelan opened his mouth to comment further, but she moved on rather quickly, and he missed his chance. The selkie supposed that cheerful tone aside, it might be a subject she’d rather move on from.

“Thank you, I’m rather fond of it myself.” He responded with a little laugh, humming a little he shrugged slightly. It was hard to say if his answer would be one she would know or not, the world she spoke of sounded different from the one he knew. “Ireland, though I’ve moved around a lot in recent years.” He paused, blinking for a moment. “Though I suppose this might be the most drastic move I’ve made so far.”

Caelan had been wondering himself, how many people in this place were actually from this world? How many were actually like themselves, but had been here longer?

Of course, he’s a little more interested in Arkady and her world for the moment. Similar to his own, and yet so obviously different. “Yeah? I wondered if there were an Ireland in your world, and if your Whitechapel was the one I was thinking of.” He shook his head a little, “Well, it’s still not quite the one I’m thinking of. I suspect your world has gone down a very different path than my own by the sounds of it.” The selkie would love to ask further, to learn of what his folk were like or what they were known for in her world, but there was so much to think over already.

Humming, the sound coming out a bit questioning as she mentioned where she’d been last. “You too? I admit, I’m a little more use to the idea of there being multiple worlds which one can walk isn’t entirely strange... But this is another sense of the idea entirely, you aren’t the first I’ve heard to come from somewhere they shouldn’t be. Makes one wonder over how common a problem it might be, or if we’ll ever get home.”

“My world?” He hummed a little, “Very green, full of life and ingenuity at the moment. Things get mucked up to varying degrees on and off though. Plagues, famines, wars... People unfortunately, I find, bring those about very quickly.” Humans and fae alike if he were being honest. “I wouldn’t say any of it was ever caused by someone quite so pleasant to chat with as you.” He added with a kind smile to Arkady. Caelan would be willing to bet there was a reason behind whatever it was she was talking about, but it was her business.

He shrugged a little as they moved on, “I might have met him, I’ve met a lot of people since I arrived. Bit of a social butterfly as they say.” He chuckled a little, he did like to be surrounded by interesting people. So striking out and meeting everyone was the best way to combat the unfortunate loss of his companions since arriving.

“The lack of discussion on how or when we get to go home is a bit frustrating, hopefully they don’t have anything worse planned like your last world.” He frowned a little, “Awful rude to lie about something like that, taking people from their homes against their will is terribly rude in the first place.” It was something he admittedly hated, and was prone to correcting when he came across it in his own world. This was a slightly different situation of course, but it still left a bad taste in his mouth.

Caelan wasn’t sure if some of the worst he’d seen was by people doing their ‘best.’ Sometimes people were just terrible and didn’t really think beyond their own selfish desires. That said, he can see how there would definitely be situations like that out there... Arkady seemed to be carrying some sort of weight to suggest it anyway, based on her words.

“You might be right there, it’d be good to have friends in the same situation to watch each other’s backs if this all goes sideways.” Now if only he’d trust the people he met enough to properly call them friends like the rest of his group, rather than social distractions.

The selkie nodded his agreement a moment later, “Things that need fixing, people that need helping. Take away even one person that was trying to do that and it could all fall apart.” Caelan knew his group was good of course, they could function reasonably well without him. It just would throw the balance off, he had certain skill sets the others didn’t, just like they could do things he couldn’t. Everyone was necessary.

“Yeah? I’m not surprised, kind of wonder if it might be something similar to that mist that’s on the outskirts of everything.” He commented thoughtfully over her inability to see what was going to happen here. “Whatever is going on here, they seem fairly keen on keeping us in the dark about a lot of it, whoever ‘they’ are.” He’d put money on Halcyn and Athony, but for all he knew they could be just as clueless as the rest of them. Someone else might be behind all this, as paranoid as that might be to consider.

The selkie smiled a little a moment later, “I can’t argue with you though, having friends about does make it all a little easier... or at the very least, more fun.” He certainly wished at least a few members of his group were here with him, a few different minds wouldn’t hurt and even someone with a penchant for chaos like Adelaide could have been useful.

He frowned a little, his thoughts lining up a bit with Arkady’s next question. “Well my friends are pretty clever, I know they can probably function reasonable well without me.” He smiled a little, Sara might have joked that things ran smoother without him if she were present. “But we all work better together than apart. There are people who need us to do what we do best to help out, so it’s worrying to be stuck here where I don’t know what my purpose is compared to at home where I know who needs me.”

Caelan does shrug a little, “Though I’m sure that I’m not the only one who was brought here that had things that needed doing, you and probably quite a few others have better things to do than play around here with ‘rebuilding.”

Well that was terribly ominous when you stopped to think about it. Hiding something or nothing... Caelan wasn’t sure what he preferred, but he certainly would be happier knowing the answers. “That sounds like an awful mess, no one should be used.” He added with a rare grimace, too used to walking into a situation where that was the case. He’d have raised a particular brand of hell if he were from Arkady’s world. To use someone without their knowledge with the intent to throw away and replace was very rude...

“It’s hard to see where the Aspects are concerned. Maybe they know more — I’d be inclined to believe they at least know something more — or maybe they’re being kept in the dark too.” He shrugged lightly, “But I intend to figure it out, poke around enough and eventually you find a crack to use to your advantage.”

There was something to be said for a group made up of all sorts, even those who weren’t clever were integral to keeping the works running. Even if some were just the glue holding everyone together, they were important... at least to Caelan. “I’m sorry you’ve been separated from them then, have you never found yourself in a world where any of them appeared as well?” He asked because there was still a part of him that hoped others from his group might show up, the selkie certainly would have felt better to have a couple of them near.

As for rebuilding, he smiled wryly. “And that is why I have a hard time trusting what they’ve been saying. They clearly have considerable power of some kind.” They’d have to if they could bring so many people here.

“Too much power is always a bad thing, despite the fact that so many naturally crave more of it...” He voiced his agreement with a nod. Caelan didn’t crave power so much as purpose and things to keep him busy. He was the sort of fae who was very balanced in their abilities. It was all quite conditional, tied and limited by what he was. A balance between elemental magic and man, “There needs to be a balance in the world. I admit, I do wonder if an unbalance might have something to do with what happened.” So much here was contained, limited or secreted away.

“Guess we’ll just have to keep being nosy till we figure all that out.” He added a moment later, speculating would only get them so far after all. Getting up to mischief would definitely be more productive in his opinion.

“That’s the spirit, sometimes a little stubborn belief goes a long way.” He responded with a lighter tone, moving on from the heavier subject a bit. Glancing at the fish stall again, he pulled the conversation back to the original topic a bit. “It also goes a long way for fishing.”

He hummed a little, “If you decide to go the route of catching them yourself, just remember they can be tricky little devils to catch, and it’s one part patience, one part stubborn belief that you’ll get one.”
