The rolling of the eyes was something of a victory for Illyana, it meant she'd potentially gotten to him. Which, of course, was her ultimate goal. Anything at all to make sure things weren't taken seriously: that she was able to avoid anything that came along that could be more on the unpleasant side. Plus, well, it was just fun to tease your friends and like it or not he was her friend here. One of the very few she'd actually claim as hers. Had she known he was thinking about her mutant abilities including being able to turn anything around to be about teasing she would in fact take it as one of the highest levels of compliments. It was an eternal win-win for her.
She sighed as things took their inevitable turn towards the serious and crossed her arms in an equally unhappy manner. "Maybe there isn't a reason, have you thought of that? Maybe they just like to be annoying!" That seemed weirdly logical to her and she was honestly of the opinion that it could actually be possible that this entire thing was just meant to be how to annoy them. "Or maybe they're just super nosy and like messing with us." Coming from someone that specialized in annoying people or messing with them, it was working pretty damn well.
"See you're avoiding it," said as though she wasn't also avoiding it. "So it's clearly interesting. Juicy even." Look, she just really didn't want to admit that her secret was something as stupid as 'I want to be a normal girl and stay here with friends, a moderately more normal life, and a chance at being something more.' That was lame. There was no way around the idea that it was lame.
Well, that got...a flicker of something on her face. Something that was very clearly concern and...maybe even sympathy. "Death isn't so bad." She gave him a weird attempt at a smile, awkward and overly forced, a sad attempt at comfort. "And sometimes people come back. Or maybe you won't actually die. You can't know for sure. Right? Someone might be the hero and sweep in." Everything else she might have been thinking about seemed to fall to the wayside at his admission. Curse being friends.
