The tree had been decorated, the presents laid out and hidden until they could be shared. The kitchen was warm with a heady scent of roast beef and apples drifting through their home. There were other scents lingering in the corner of each room, a combination of Yuki's New Year's cakes and Jacob's apple pie. The two cultures didn't clash but accented each other as if they were meant to be combined.

Shi yipped happily as he ran from outside where his Christmas gift had been built to inside where his dad's sat comfortably at the warm kotatsu table. Puppy toys littered his path but Jacob wasn't too concerned about cleaning them up. They weren't ever left where Yuki or he might trip over them.

Jacob leaned against Yuki's side and smiled as he carefully placed a necklace around his love's slender throat. "I put a picture of Shi & me in it. Took longer than I thought. Sorry, you had to wait." He leaned down and kissed the top of Yuki's head. Jacob also felt bad because his larger Christmas gift to Yuki had been designed to be used when it wasn't snowing out and all but useless now that Aterat was experiencing its usual cold snap.

"What do you wish to do this year?"

Yuki had been out and looking for something to sort of bring his own traditions to his home that was shared with Jacob and the dog. Fortunately he'd found mochi, and little rainbow coloured mochi too, along with a cake. He couldn't seem to find any of the traditional dishes, so he bought those things instead and brought them home.

Before sitting down, he placed a yellow rabbit down on the table as it was the closest thing he could find resembling his cousin Momiji. Or it was really more like matching the rabbit backpack the younger Sohma used to carry around on his back.

Once he sat down, he felt the necklace go around his neck and reached a hand up to touch it. Yuki smiled even if he couldn't quite see the picture, but to have it around his neck was more than enough for right now.

"It was worth waiting for." Yuki smiled, settling in against Jacob a little more comfortably and he looked at the rabbit on the table for a moment before returning his attention to his handsome beau. Sighing at the kiss, Yuki felt all the tension in his body just fading away. Such was the effect Jacob had on him and it was simply perfect.

The question was a puzzling one and he wasn't sure what particular direction the other was referring to. "I'm not sure how to answer because I'm not sure exactly what the question is."

Maybe he was reading into it too hard.

Jacob reaches out and lightly pokes the fluffy cheek of the toy rabbit resting at the center of the table. It's cute though he has no idea why Yuki purchased it. If it stays on the low table it'll likely end up among Shi's playthings. They'll have to find a safe high place to keep it if Yuki doesn't want it to become a chew toy.

"Mm?" He looks down at Yuki's head and thinks about the best way to phrase his question. "Do you not do New Year's resolutions?"

He pulls his arms back from the cute rabbit and wraps Yuki in a warm comforting hug. Jacob knows that his love has a tendency to overthink and, while there is a specific thought commanding a majority of his brain power, the last thing he wants to do is cause his cute companion to worry.

He presses his face against the back of Yuki's head. "Are you already worried about something?"

"Oh resolutions." And as far as he was concerned this was a pretty safe topic. "Ya we do those at home." Of course the Cat's resolution to beat Yuki on the rooftop with Miss Honda flashed through his mind, and it kept him amused.

He felt Jacob pressing into his head and shook his head with a smile. "No, I just wanted to make sure I was answering the question that you said instead of if I had mis translated it."

Which he totally had.

A low warm chuckle rumbled through Jacob's chest as he gently squeezed Yuki's center. Yuki was prone to over thinking and Jacob was shit at choosing his words carefully, it was amazing they didn't have more miscommunication. "So? What's your resolution?"

He pulled away enough to turn and meet Yuki's gaze. "I think mine is to continue what we're doing and make this our home." Shi barked as if agreeing before wiggling his way under the warm kotasu blanket circling the low table. "I don't usually make New Year resolutions so I don't know if I'm doing it right." Though he wanted to hear Yuki's so he could help grant his loves desires.

"My resolution?" Yuki asked in his usual whispering sort of tone. Really he hadn't thought of one. "I haven't really thought about it much." They'd been so busy with fine tuning details of the house, working, sharing meals together and trying to make sure the house didn't run out of things.

But then he heard Jacob's resolutions which of course produced a smile. "So no more crazy projects?" he asked as Shi started moving about. But Yuki blinked amusedly and smiled. "That sounds perfect."

Jacob scoffed. "You don't like my projects?" He was thinking of making something new soon but he supposed that he should really help Yuki out more. He didn't clean very often though he had slowly gotten in the habit of picking up after himself... as long as it wasn't his clothes which were still all over the bedroom floor.

"I guess I should make a resolution to help you out more around the house." It only seemed fair. Though Jacob was very bad at basic housework. His old apartment was a mess.

"It's not that I don't like them. I just have an issue with you being outside when it's freezing, just so you can fix something that doesn't need it." And then of course there had been all of those other things that just had to be fixed and involved Jacob not being properly dressed.

It's how people (Jacob) got sick and wondered why.

The new line of thought got him wondering but he wasn't the only one who lived there. And Yuki always figured sensei might drop by and judge them for the house so he tried to keep it relatively neat.

In answer to his beau, he just smiled. "I'd like that."
