Ignis had taken all sorts of time to prepare for this well in advance. At work he found himself counting down the day and finally it arrived. So he made a nice set of steaks, with mushrooms and onions on the side. Also there was fish cooked as close to Nida's island recipeh as he could manage. Parsley potatoes and salad were sides and for dessert there were a few chocolate confections along with their leftover wedding cake. Coffee and tea were available for them too.

On the table were nicely wrapped gifts beside a vase filled with a dozen roses he'd had a florist dye green. One gift contained a piece of paper with writing on it that led Nida to outside to look at two gifts (as paper was a traditional first year gift) which were a new grill and grilling accessories.On the table too sat a small wrapped stack of new notebooks to draw in, and on top of that sat a wrapped professional drawing artist kit. And on top of that was a wrapped plentiful stash of tea.

Ignis had also purchased a new set of candles, a nice stack of wood for their fireplace, a plush rug to sit in front of said fireplace and another personal item for them. But those last bits were upstairs that Nida would see later.

So as he waited for Nida to get home, he bustled around the kitchen, making sure everything was in order.

Nice started with the kit, opening it up and he paused to consider it. He looked awed to have this gift. And he smiled.

"Oh Ignis, this is such a wonder. I didn't... I hadn't thought to get anything like this."

Ignis smiled softly. "One of my fondest things is to catch you drawing. And so I thought perhaps the drawing kit and tea would be helpful in your enjoyment of your hobby." Nida still had to see the part about the grill and the accessories, but it was fine.

And Ignis knew his husband had seen the green roses. The other gifts were still upstairs, but they'd get there.

"Oh it will," he says in awe and delight. "I have been working at it so much lately. And I'm going to learn how to paint from a young man named Yusuke."

And he wanted to paint his love, once he had more practice.

For now he set the new gift aside and opened up the paper. Interesting.

"Come outside with me, to see what I'm seeking?"

"Yusuke?" Ignis asked with a smile. "He's a good lad and is quite the talented young man."

But before he could get another sip of coffee, Nida was after his next gift. So the coffee simply went with him.

"Of course I'll accompany you darling."

Because he wanted to see the delight.

He was a very good lad, and he had helped Nida to see he was more of an artist than he'd thought.

"Wonderful," he says, heading out into the crisp day to consider the garden.

It doesn't take long to find the grill and his eyes light up with delight again.

"Oh yes! I'm going to cook so much on this!"

Ignis followed his husband out the door and smiled. But he was careful to hide it behind his cup of coffee.

And when Nida found the grill, he leaned back and watched as his mate looked it over. "I rather thought you might enjoy it, considering you had when it was on the beach."

Which was what gave him the idea.

"Yes. And you remembered all these months later and snuck one here," Nida said with delight. "Oh my dear, you've been so good to me.

Nida had been doing more cooking beside the fires of the guard station he worked, but this was better.

"I have so many things i should stock up on!"

Ignis smiled at Nida. "Well I rather recall how good you were at being able to keep up with the demand we had at the beach."

It was one of the many fond memories of Nida that he had here.

At hearing about the stocking up, Ignis half laughed. "Well I suppose a good shopping trip will be in order then so that you can stock up."

"I rather impressed myself too," Nida laughed. "I didn't even have a speed junction."

And yes, he remembered it as well. He was so very content that day.

Ignis laughed. "Well then I believe I should expect quite the extensive shopping list quite soon."

He didn't figure that his husband was going to let this particular gift go idle for long.

"I promise not to make it too much work. And if I'm lucky, I'll have the day off to help."

That said, he knows that Ignis was the one with the better chance of knowing what they'd even need when Nida asked for general things.

Ignis smiled. "Darling I'm sure it'll be alright. And it will give us something to look forward to when you're out here working on dinner."

Not to mention possibly hot and sweaty. Ignis could definitely handle that bit.

Yes, there is that. Nida laughs and nods.

"Alright. I'll be patient."

That answer got a small laugh, because there were times when Nida most definitely was not patient. "I'm sure you can be."

Yes, there were many times where it was true. Like now. He couldn't even begin to wait to have Ignis in his arms, so he didn't. He just moved forward to embrace the other man.

"You spoil me, my love."

Ignis smiled. "I rather confess to enjoy spoiling you darling." But in truth he was always grateful for his husband, and he saw spoiling the man as a good thing.

"I know. It makes you so wondrous to me," Nida answered with a laugh. "Come on, we should go back inside."

Ignis smiled and kissed Nida on top of his head as a silent thank you for the kind words. But then he attended to the matter at hand. "Right you are, let's go inside and warm up, shall we?"

Taking Nida's hand, he moved to go back inside.

"I'm warm whenever I'm at your side," he said with a smile. But yeah, inside worked, and he was happy to head back.

Ignis smiled at his husband and they headed into the house. "I suppose this means we'll be busy with your new grill soon and we can open the rest of our gifts in the meantime."
