This was probably a good move on Arthur’s part. While Waver would undoubtedly listen politely… He would need something stronger than tea in his system to consider sharing his own in return. Very few people knew about some of his personal experiences outside whispered rumors around the tower and facts he’d had to let slip here and there over the years. Outside moments where he was very comfortable, or when someone was near enough when he’d been drinking to witness a more open and absently chatty mood that it brought on, he tended towards quiet or the vague and limited musing. So it wouldn’t be a fair exchange, because Waver would undoubtedly be a touch too vague to be satisfying.
The professor wasn’t unused to those new to magic. Aside from his ‘problem students,’ his department was a hub for those who didn’t come from families steeped in tradition and were new to the idea. “That is a good point, though I believe we might find actual testing prior to their joining us tricky in this case given how the systems of magic seem to vary from one world to the next… But I usually offer open lectures for my beginner classes once or twice a month, that way potential students sit in and get a feel for both my methods and what they might be facing…” He hummed lightly, leaning back in his seat. There were also the students with specialized magics already to consider. They often needed more specific attention aside from the general classes.
The first sip of tea gets a satisfied sigh. That was just what he’d needed. There was nothing like a nice cup of tea to liven you up… As much as he ever did, anyway. “It’s good, better than the slap-dash cup I had before I left.” He complemented quietly. He did enjoy the scones as well, of course, though his appetite bordered on smaller compared to some. Only increasing when he’d overdone it with his meagre magic and his reserves needed replenishing. He had a chronic stomach condition that would undoubtedly be a problem once the medication from the botany department ran out.
