"That's really not comforting," she replied. Did he think it was supposed to be comforting or had he just said the first thing that came to mind? He was young, perhaps it had just been that. "It can't just be random." Nothing like this was every random, it had to be more than that. Or at least she wanted to think that was the case. It was overwhelming to think that it was completely random and there was absolutely nothing they could do about it. There was always something someone could do, right?

"Even if that's true that doesn't stop us from being concerned about what we left behind." Though it was actually a small comfort to think he was telling the truth. As long as it wasn't hurting their mission back home then at least she could take a small amount of relief.
