First š Lost without Direction [Open]
Who; Princess Luna & You!!!
What; Trying to be brave.
Where; Around the city.
When; April 17th - 23rd.
Warnings; MAX CUTNESS
17th - House of Solace Orphanage
A small figure stood outside of the Orphanage with a steady frown pointed at the large building. She understood what it meant but denial crept through her little body like a snake. She wasn't an orphan. Her mother and father were alive but it didn't matter in this kingdom because her family wasn't here with her. She was alone and it was something that she wasn't able to get used to. It'd been two days since she'd first arrived and her loneliness only grew with each passing hour.
The nights were the worst. She didn't want to return to the orphanage where she was forced to try and sleep while unsettling thoughts plagued her. Perhaps she's cursed like her mother. She'd been told that this world wasn't a curse but what else could it be called.
Luna sighed softly before turning away from the Orphanage and walking down the street. When she grew hungry she'd have to return but for now, she was going to avoid the daunting building. Her shoes were a little too big, borrowed from Mono, and every few steps she tripped before regaining her footing once more.
She had no idea where to go or what to do.
20th - Nightime Storm
The nights were the worst and the sudden storm made it unbearable. Luna had hidden under her bed with a blanket over her head for the first hour but she could still hear the rumble and see the bright flashes of light through the nearby window. She cried silently making her throat ache for the voice that she'd lost. She wanted to call someone to come save her but no one could hear her cries.
She thought of her twin brother and knew that he'd have been there with her, holding her to protect her from the angry god that cried out for justice. Sole wasn't with her. It was time for her to be brave.
Luna gathered her blanket and wandered out into the rain. It was difficult to see but she'd been to Mono's home when he'd given her a pair of shoes and she was positive that she knew the way. The wind battered at her tiny form and if she'd been any taller then she would have blown away but she stood strong with her tiny fingers clinging desperately to the blanket wrapped around her shoulders.
Her steps stumbled to a stop when she spotted a figure in the distance. She couldn't make out what it was but stopped, falling to the ground as fear froze her tiny limbs.
23rd - Midday Songs
Her time in the city had been stressful and not without incident but there were calm moments too. In between the hours she found herself looking up at the sky with a thoughtful gaze. Was the storm truly over or was this a lull. Luna had never liked stormy weather and the castle she'd once lived in did nothing to define the noise. It was for this reason that she'd first begun to learn how to play the harp.
The small lyre that she'd been given from Llyewelln sat on her tiny legs as she carefully plucked the cords. The notes were a little different but the strings were the same.
Luna sat on a random street corner and began to gently pluck the lullaby that her mother used to sing to her. It wasn't overly complicated and even when she fumbled she was able to recover and recall the remainder of the song. It was far from perfect and she played one of the sets twice having forgotten what had come next but it was a lovely song. If it wasn't for the frown and slow draw of her fingers it might have sounded happy.

20th - Nightime Storm
Unfortunately, Pretzel had needed to be let out for a moment in the downpour to do his little dog business. They couldnāt expect him to stay in till the storm was over. At least⦠Llewellyn had presumed the frantic pawing at the door was for when he started whining. Llewellyn donned his hat and coat and took Pretzel out into the yard, trying to stay under the shelter provided by the balcony above. Pretzel, however, made a mad-dash for the gate. The hinge holding it shut had broken off in a particularly strong gust of wind that came in with the storm and off the hound went, letting out some loud barks as if expecting Llewellyn to follow.
Eyes comically wide, he took off at a dash, calling for the dog.
The figure Luna could see in the distance was decidedly tall and wearing a familiar hat. More familiar still was the hound that was much closer, rushing up to see the little girl who had quickly become one of his favourite people.
20th - Nightime Storm
Her arms wrapped around Pretzel's neck and her blanket whipped off her tiny body to be dragged into the darkness of the night. Her pink nightgown was soaked through and her shoes were weighted with water but she didn't care. She wasn't alone anymore. Her face pressed against Pretzel's fur as she fought to keep them both on the ground.
It wasn't until Llewellyn was right next to them that she noticed that they weren't alone. It made sense. As far as Luna knew, Pretzel was always with Lleweylln. If there was one then the other was there too. She didn't realize the warm puppy but looked up at Llewellyn with tears in her eyes. Her lips moved but no sound came out when she spoke.
'Non voglio essere solo'
[translation: I don't want to be alone.]

He let out a few more barks to get Llewellynās attention, expecting the man had followed behind him when he escaped the yard. This was what his training was for, wasnāt it? To find kids who were out and lost when they shouldnāt be??
Llewellyn, holding his hat down in one hand and squinting as the rain poured down around him, tried to spot where the barks were coming from. When he did finally catch sight of his companion, a new worry gripped him. Was that a child?? He picked up the pace, not stopping now until he was next to Pretzel and the childās side. Closer now, he recognized the small form as the little girl heād recently happened upon on her first day here. The one whoād wanted an instrument and been unkindly chased away from the storefront.
āLuna???ā He uttered, his own voice muffled by the weather, anyway. Pretzel had finally settled down enough to settle for staying tucked in the kidās arms. Llewellyn knew she was trying to say something. For all that he knew she couldnāt, but the shadows of the night made lip-reading a little more difficult. It didnāt matter, though. It wasnāt hard to tell that she was alone and miserable in this weather. āCome here, let me and Pretzel help you.ā He responded in her own language.
His Italian was still a little rusty, but heād been brushing up since he met her⦠And it was easy enough to understand him as he crouched down in front of her to be on eye level. He popped the hat off his head and sat it on hers to help block some of the weather now that her blanket was gone, shrugging off his overcoat as well. They needed to get her in out of the storm before she caught a damn pneumonia.

The storm was too strong or maybe she was just too weak. Luna wasn't a fighter like her brother was, she wasn't able to weather the storms that life had thrown her way. She had tried but had ended up stuck on the sidewalk with nowhere to go.
Pretzel was smaller than Luna and while she didn't have the strength to carry him, she could cling to him with all her might. It was important to never let him go.
The hat was placed on her head and if she hadn't bowed her body forward it would have blown away. At first, it didn't help but with the addition of Llewellyn's coat, her limbs began to tremble with cold. She hadn't noticed how cold she'd been or how much the torrent had stolen from her. Her limbs felt weak and the last tendrils of strength faded as her body fell limp against Pretzel's protective form.

Llewellyn, though, was busy making sure the coat was secure over her shoulders as he knelt on the cobblestones. The detective continued to squint in the evening shadows as he looked for any sign that there was something wrong (other than her being cold and drenched by the storm). The way she was clinging to Pretzel made things a tad awkward, even if the dog was still on the smaller side, he had to wrap the coat around her and the hound in order to make sure she was as covered up as he could manage.
That, in turn, made the next step a little more awkward. Llewellyn needed to get her inside out of this, but it didnāt look like she could move an inch further. The fact that sheād made it all this way was surprising to begin with⦠Pretzel seemed content to let her cling to him, so Llewellyn had to very carefully scoop both of them up with a slight wobble before he was sure they were both secure in his arms.
āThere now, just hang on. Weāll have you in and out of this storm in no time.ā He commented in as reassuring a tone as he could manage as he turned back in the direction of the house and began hurrying up the street. His mind was racing all the while, wanting answers to questions he didnāt really have the luxury of asking right now. Those could wait till later once she was inside and warm.
For the moment, he found himself glad that the catch to the gate had broken in the wind and was still swinging lightly. Easy to pass through, easier than the doorknob was going to be. With an awkward little lean as he made it to the doorway, he caught the knob without putting the girl down. It took a couple of tries, but once he got it to turn, he pushed the door open and swept them inside, shutting the door behind him with his foot.
The faint light of the lamps cast a warm and cozy glow as he finally put her down in the entrance hall. Llewellyn absentmindedly mused that three of them probably looked a sight, like a trio of half-drowned rats, probably. Water pooled on the floor around them as he finally lifted his hat from her head to get a better look, ignoring the water dripping from his hair into his eyes. āYou alright, Luna? Are you hurt, or just soaked and cold?ā
Heād need to take care of that too, but first he needed to get a better idea of if heād missed anything more serious.

In a blink, they were stepping into the warm interior of Llewellyn's home. Luna rose her head and tried to look around but everything was foggy. Her arms were stiff and her fingers trembled from the cold biting at her skin. She looked up at her savior and then down at the puppy that was still curled against her front. At some point, she had released Pretzel but the noble creature had remained curled against her, keeping her warm.
Her lips opened and then closed, as uncertainty gripped tightly within her tiny chest. This was a stranger's home. This man had helped her but was it safe here? Was she still running and hiding? All of her worries and fears fled the moment the thunder cracked in the sky. Anything was better than being alone or outside.
A weak whine managed to escape Luna's throat as she shakily reached for Llewellyn's hand, spelling out the words she knew as well as her fingers would let her. 'Cold. Sky noise scary. Scared. Dark. Alone.'

So he offered her a sympathetic expression, nodding quickly. āNoisy storms are frightening, and being on your own makes it worse. Though one shouldnāt be out in it either, it can be quite dangerous⦠Iām glad I found you, Luna.ā He added, not wanting to think of the poor thing being out in this weather on her own all night⦠Heād seen far too many bad things happen to children who were neglected and out in the elements.
But if she wasnāt feeling safe or comfortable at the orphanage⦠Llewellyn felt his heart tug again, the poor thing deserved to be somewhere she felt comfortable. The new addition of an orphanage to this world had left him with a rather complicated feeling⦠He probably would have done the same as Luna, if he hadnāt been lucky enough to have been taken in by Mrs. Young. It was important for children to have a place to go⦠But heād seen bad things happen in places like that.
āWell, I⦠Canāt really do much about the scary noises and the rain⦠But! I can do something about your being alone, and the cold.ā He responded finally, the responsible side of him used to caring for those who were younger than him kicking in. His movements animated and light, something to set her nerves at ease⦠And really, Llewellyn was just an animated person. It was a little comical looking, really, especially since he was still crouched at eye level, not wanting to tower over her while they spoke. āFirst, we need to get you into something warm and dry. Mm⦠Letās see.ā He looked around. It wasnāt like he had anything that was child-sized⦠But one of his older shirts would do, right? They were a nice soft material, and would practically float on herā¦. So at least it would be dry and warm. āI think I should have something upstairs, so why donāt you keep Pretzel company and Iāll be right back, okay?ā
He did pause to see what she thought, though, just to make sure she was comfortable before he left. At least Pretzel seemed to be good company for her, and she seemed to feel better with him there⦠So he at least knew that she would be in good company. The little hound already seemed to adore her too, so he would keep an eye on her.

Guilt knotted uncomfortably in her chest as she held Llewellyn's hand clumsily in her own. A shiver forced her release him and to wrap her arms around her slender shoulders. It had been easy to forget the cold once taken away from the constant onslaught of the storm but the warmth of the home was slowly seeping into her limbs, reminding her of the chilling ice that had sank into her tiny frame.
Luna nodded her head to tell him that he was free to go get what he needed. She had intended to patiently wait as Llewellyn headed upstairs but another problem quickly captivated the young princesses attention. Luna noticed that her valiant steed was also soaked from head to tail with water and while Pretzel could shake off a great deal of the water clinging to his fur, he was wet.
With good intentions, Luna searched the nearest room and found a stray throw blanket that had been tossed over the arm of a thick chair. With the blanket in hand she walked the short distance back to the front landing and tossed the blanket over Pretzel. Her hands were clumsy and it was difficult for her to move with any efficiency but she began to diligently dry the wet dog.

So, clothes and fluffy towels in hand, he made his way back downstairs quickly. Llewellyn didnāt want to keep the girl waiting. What with how cold she was and having been out in the rain for so longā¦? She could easily get sick, and that was rather worrying to think of.
Though he came to a rather surprised halt as he looked on at the sight before him in the entrance hall where heād left his two charges.
Pretzel was rather excited about the blanket and getting dry. It was nice and soft, and she was being very careful! So it felt rather nice, really, even if he disappeared under it a few times. Other times he gave himself a decent shake, trying to get some of the water out of his rather long ears.
Then by the end of it, heād even rolled over for Luna to get his belly.
This was when Llewellyn had entered, towels and clothing tucked under his arm, eyes wide. Heād known the blanket was downstairs, which was why he planned to let Luna curl up in it after she was changed⦠But that probably wouldnāt be happening now. Poor thing was clearly trying to help though, and he wasnāt the sort to become cross at such things. āWell, thatās quite resourceful of you, Luna. I believe heās quite comfortable now.ā Slipped out a moment later with a small smile. They had plenty of blankets, at least, since both he and Rhy werenāt fond of the cold. He could gather up a few later.

The blanket was uncomfortably damp and smelled like wet-dog but it had gotten the job done and had somehow dried the skin exposed by Luna's dress. She had dropped it to the floor when Pretzel rolled over and began to scratch at his belly. Luna had to kneel so she could reach Pretzel's entire tummy but she didn't mind. She was beginning to fall in love with him and didn't know what her life in the city would have been if she hadn't meet him.
Luna looked up after the detective returned and stopped her frantic petting. She had already placed her shoes at the front door to minimize the amount of water that she trailed through the house however the path she took to grab the blanket was noticeably marked with droplets of water.
She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do with everything gathered in Llewellyn's arms.

āAlright, then... Letās see if we canāt get rid of the cold and damp as well as you have for Pretzel, hm?ā He crouched again to give her the clothing. I⦠donāt really have anything in your size, but I think this shirt should do for a nightdress, donāt you? Itāll at least keep you warm while we wait for your things to dry. These too-ā He added, holding up a pair of socks that⦠probably would be more like knee highs on the child, but hey⦠They were also bound to be warm and soft for her feat!
Letting her take the shirt and socks, he rose to his feet again to lead her towards the small guest bathroom that was between the guest room and the sitting room. āBut, before we get to that. You should be able to dry off with this. I brought a couple, one for before you put the new clothes on, and this one for your hair.ā He held up the other two fluffy towels, before setting them down on the counter next to the sink. āSo! Iāll let you get dried off and changed in here, okay? Pretzel will be outside in the hall waiting for you, and Iāll be right back. I just need to uh- get something dry to wear myself. Iām also going to get a few blankets for you to warm up with, too. Something that should chase the chill from the storm away.ā
He waited again, just to make sure the girl didnāt need or want anything else before he left her to get changed.

She looked back at the detective and waited for him to leave before playing with the door. The lock was strange because it locked from the inside. This wasn't a cell then but truly a private room for dispelling waste. Luna looked back at the clothes and towel but before she began to dry off she cracked open the door to see if Pretzel was outside and wanted to come in to keep her company.
Luna didn't like being alone, even for short periods of time. It made her nervous but Pretzel made her feel confident again.
No matter the pup's choice, she dried, peeled off the wet clothes, and hang them on the back of the toilet to dry. Once they were carefully placed she finished drying and then pulled the dry shirt that Llewellyn had given her over her head. It was a strange design for a dress but it covered her and she was happy to have the warmth that it offered. Luna used the second towel to dry her hair but sat on the bathroom floor to braid the damp strands. It wasn't perfect but it helped keep her new shirt dry and she wouldn't have to worry about dripping on the floor as she walked through her savior's home.
When she was finished she peeked her head out of the bathroom door and then set off to explore. Llewellyn would surely find her and if she had Pretzel as company then she wasn't truly tracpassing.
no subject
At some point, he knew heād have to call the orphanage to let them know heād found her, but he was a little miffed at them for not keeping an eye on those in their care. She could have been hurt out in this, after all. But for now, he let the matter lie. It wasnāt like he was going to take her back out in that mess to return her to that place⦠That would be both cruel and foolish, and he didnāt have the heart for that. Maybe he was soft, but⦠he didnāt care. Children should be cared for, and kept safe, and too often they werenāt in his experience.
Meanwhile, when Luna opened the door, it didnāt take long for Pretzel to poke his head in and rest it on the floor while he waited for her to finish. After all, the hound had decided he was her good little guard and he would make sure she was alright after all that storm. He let out a little whine to say hello, tongue flicking out lightly for a moment before he settled for watching her braid her hair.
It wasnāt until she moved to leave the bathroom that the hound got up and moved to trot at her side as she explored, tail wagging lightly, as he gave her a ātourā of the place. The door that had been opened to the bathroom at the time led to the small sitting room for entertaining guests, that had a nice big fireplace and a plush looking red sofa. It was cozy, even if it clearly wasnāt quite finished yet, between needing furniture and some more decoration. Much of the house was the same, though, as theyād just moved in that month.
The dining room had a table and chairs, the guest room had no furniture as yet due to them trying to decide what to do with it⦠The kitchen, of course, was fully furnished with clean counters and an old-fashioned stove, ice box and sink. The counters clean aside from a few morning necessities like a kettle and teapot. It still needed a coat of paint, but it was clearly kept tidy for use.
Upstairs was a mystery unless she went up, but Llewellyn wasnāt long in descending from the second floor. āLuna?ā He called out gently, adjusting the collar of his shirt as he looked to see where the girl had gotten to. He didnāt expect her to still be in the bathroom, and hoped to find her comfortable on the sofa or something. He had a few blankets tucked under his arm that she could use to curl up in if she wanted to. At least after he got her something to eat and had another word with her about the evening if she was willing to talk.

They quickly walked from room to room with nothing particularly pulling at Luna's attention. It wasn't until she found a small bed on the floor that looked like it belonged to Pretzel that she stopped and curled up with her four-legged hero. The young princess smiled and rested her head on the pillow, waving for Pretzel to lay next to her for her to pet.
Luna heard her name being called but didn't respond. It was impossible for her to speak and she didn't want to make a mess to let him know where she was. She also didn't know what room she was in but at the same time, she was sure that Llewellyn would find her quickly enough.
Or perhaps Pretzel would reply for her so that he'd know where they had wandered off too.
no subject
Though at the sounds of Llewellyn calling out as he descended the stairs, the hound gave a light bar to let the man know where they were. Either because the hound realized that Luna was quiet and couldnāt speak up for herself, or because he was used to greeting the man upon his arrival. It brought Llewellyn around the corner to the cozy sitting room with a curious little expression as he took in the sight. āThere you two are, I uh- see youāve gotten comfortable.ā He commented with a smile, crossing the room and sitting on the arm of the sofa next to the dog bed as he unfolded a blanket.
He didnāt want to disturb how cozy she looked, but the detective couldnāt help but wonder if sheād be more comfortable on the sofa instead. More room, after all, and easier to wrap up in a cozy blanket⦠But Llewellyn supposed he could address that after. For now, he was hoping to make sure she was warming up. āLooks like the shirt is fitting alright, and hopefully warmer than your little dress. Iāll hang it to dry with the other things in a little while.ā He held out the smaller unfolded blanket to her to start with. āYou can wrap this around your shoulders though, if you like. I was thinking you might want something to eat, hm?ā Something to eat and a little chat before he got her settled to sleep. Surely she must be a bit hungry after her ordeal.
At least that was how Llewellyn had always felt after being through something, a comforting bit of something to eat. A sandwich, or maybe a bit of soup broth in a mug to help warm her up. Surely they had something like that, and it wouldnāt be too difficult for him to make or reheat⦠He wouldnāt burn the kitchen down with only that much.
no subject
Watching her unfold the blanket was awkward but she eventually got the warm fabric curled around her and Pretzel with other their heads sticking out.
The thought of something to eat brightened her sleepy gaze and she nodded but she wasn't sure if she could stomach anything solid. Her stomach hurt but something warm to drink would be perfect. She wondered if he had warm milk but when she tried to speak it was silent. Luna frowned and then tried to mime the act of drinking for him to understand.
no subject
If only theyād had their guest room finished, he supposed, he could have at least moved the two in there as well. Something, he supposed, he should have a word with his husband about finishing should this happen again. Really, Llewellyn realized he was going to have to tell Rhy about all of this as well, because it was going to stick in his mind for a while and he needed to talk to someone about it⦠Especially in the event that this became a more regular occurrence if Luna found her way here when she didnāt want to be alone.
As she mimed drinking, Llewellyn caught on rather quickly. āYou would like something to drink instead? Mm⦠I can probably manage that.ā The detective rubbed the side of his face thoughtfully. Not water. She needed something a little more filling. āWould you like some warm soup broth? Or perhaps a glass of warm milk before you try to get some rest?ā
Pausing awkwardly, he realized she might not know how to indicate one or the other. Thoughtfully, he continued a moment later. āIf you want broth, then hold up your left hand, or the right if you want milk.ā
no subject
She looked at her two hands and then raised her right hand. It had taken her a second but she knew her left from her right. Her brother had taught her as soon as he began learning how to hold a sword.
The thunder crashed and she jumped, wrapping her arms around Pretzel because surely her four-legged hero could protect her from the elements that raged tirelessly outside.
no subject
While she finished it, he gathered up a couple more blankets to tuck her and Pretzel in with (since he seemed quite protective and like he intended to remain glued to her side) for the remainder of the evening. āGet some rest, Luna.ā He added softly, taking the mug to return to the kitchen to wash it before finding his way to the sofa to stretch out on and keep an eye on the other two in case they needed him through the night.
Heād return her to the orphanage tomorrow⦠Even if he realized that he didnāt really want to, not really⦠But unsure of what Rhy would think of that, heād have to talk to his husband afterward.
In the meantime, he would do his best to make sure she knew she could visit anytime she needed. Whether she didnāt feel safe somewhere, or needed to talk, or even⦠even if she just wanted to see her favourite little four-legged friend.
