TOmmy doesn't know what he wants. If he goes home he loses Gar. But if he goes home he can get his family back. He can be where he belongs.

"So long as Gar is here, I can't go home. He promised never to abandon me. I can't leave him behind. So, you know, I guess I'm here."

And he loves Gar, and Speedy, so it's not that much of a pain. He just, you know, is more torn.
